Mission Statement
Science and Engineering Recruitment Team (SERT)
In order to support Utah State’s ADVANCE mission to create a university where all faculty members, regardless of their gender or ethnicity, are allowed to succeed to their fullest potential, the Science and Engineering Recruitment Team will work specifically to build an environment that attracts and supports this same faculty on a personal level. To fulfill this mission, the Science and Engineering Recruitment Team will assume these roles:
1. Collaborate with hiring committees to maximize the quality of potential hires by attracting a broad and diverse pool of qualified candidates.
2. Provide the following information to committees and departments to aid in recruitment and retention of a diverse faculty:
-
Advertising strategies to increase numbers of potentially successful applicants
-
Decision-making tools to ensure objective treatment of this broadened applicant pool
-
Best practices to maximize the effectiveness of interviewing while minimizing the affects of unconscious and unintended bias
-
Dual-career policies
-
Effective integration mechanisms for accompanying partners
-
Mentoring support to departments and faculty to improve the academic working environment and retention of a diverse faculty pool
3. Act as a human resource pool to provide administrators and search committees with recruitment and retention best practices information. To meet this goal, SERT can provide the following support:
- Non-departmental contact to meet with candidates and answer questions about the University community
-
A non-departmental faculty member to serve on search committees and, potentially, enhance committee diversity
